Native California artist Maria Trimbell‘s transformative mural work draws creative inspiration from nature, architectural ornament, textiles, and her world travels combined with a deep regard for historic art.

Sought after for her ability to create a feeling of calm and tranquility, Maria applies her skill as a trained fine artist to realize and often transcend each client’s vision in thin veils of highly pigmented paints for a soft, atmospheric effect.

Specialties include hand painted scenic murals, chinoiserie, custom stencilling, and architectural trompe l’oeil. One-of-a-kind finishes using a variety of materials including plaster relief, glazes, inlay, and metal leaf are created upon request so that every project is truly unique.

Based on the coast North of  Los Angeles, Maria and her talented team of artists work locally and around the world and would be delighted to discuss projects of any size.

More about Maria

A love of nature, art and architecture (and an encounter with a Titian painting in a book) captured mural and decorative artist Maria Trimbell's creative imagination from an early age.  Born and raised in California to a family that traveled often and encouraged her artistic talent, Maria spent her youth drawing, exploring nature, and learning to paint.

An influential "grand tour" of Europe in a VW van with her family at age seventeen included a visit to the Louvre that brought Maria closer to the paintings that touched her from childhood, and furthered her passion to travel and create.

After earning a BFA (summa cum laude) from San Francisco State University with an emphasis in conceptual design, Maria was well-versed in creative problem solving and site specific work, but felt a strong yearning to engage her fine art skills.  In her twenties, Maria traveled extensively throughout Europe absorbing art and ambience from Venetian Villas to the Alhambra in Spain.  After working as an art director for a Southern California faux finishing company for several years, she decided to specialize and started her own business, quickly earning a dream commission in Venice, Italy – to paint a scenic mural in a building that Titian himself once lived and worked in.  From that moment, Maria's career found a fertile path.

With commissions from renowned designers and creative clients in the U.S. and abroad, Maria continues to be informed and inspired by her travels – with a constant desire to broaden her scope (such as learning fresco technique) and always welcome serendipity.
