Maria Trimbell Murals is a bespoke decorative art studio collaborating with designers and homeowners around the world to create exquisite living spaces

Maria Trimbell’s evocative ornamental work draws inspiration from a variety of sources — Italian frescoes and antique textiles, nature and botanical art — elegantly rendered in an atmospheric style for a feeling of timelessness and poetry.

Hand painted scenic murals and chinoiserie, architectural trompe l’oeil, and intricate custom stencils are created on site or in the studio.  Specialty decorative finishes using traditional and modern materials are made to order so that each commission is truly unique.

Based on the California coast between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, Maria and her talented team of artists travel the world and would be delighted to discuss projects of any size.

More about Maria

A love of nature, art and architecture (and an encounter with a Titian painting in a book) captured decorative artist Maria Trimbell's creative imagination from an early age.  Born and raised in California to a family that revered wild spaces and encouraged her artistic talent, Maria spent her youth drawing, exploring the family's forest, and honing her artistic gifts through private lessons.

An influential summer "grand tour" of Europe in a VW van with her family at seventeen included a visit to the Louvre that brought Maria closer to the paintings that touched her from childhood, and fueled her passion for travel, art, and architecture.

After earning a BFA (summa cum laude) from San Francisco State University with an emphasis in conceptual design, Maria was well-versed in creative problem solving and site specific work, but yearned to re-engage her fine art skills in a non-gallery context. She traveled extensively throughout Europe, absorbing the art and ambience from Palladian Villas to the Alhambra.  After relocating to Southern California and working as art director for a faux finishing company for several years, she felt ready to specialize and started her own business, fortuitously earning a dream commission in Venice, Italy – to paint a whole room scenic mural in a building where Titian himself once lived and worked.  From that moment, Maria's career found a fertile path.

With regular commissions from renowned designers (such as Michael S. Smith) and creative clients in the U.S. and abroad, Maria continues to be informed and inspired by her travels – with a constant desire to broaden her scope and always welcome serendipity.
