Maria Trimbell Murals is a bespoke art studio collaborating with designers and homeowners around the world to create exquisite living spaces.

Artist Maria Trimbell's evocative decorative work draws inspiration from a world of sources including Italian frescoes, vernacular ornament, and botanical studies, gently rendered in a poetic, atmospheric style.

Hand painted scenic murals, Chinoiserie, trompe l'oeil, and custom stencils are created on site and in the studio for later installation.  Specialty decorative finishes using traditional and modern materials are made-to-order so that each commission is truly unique.

Based on the California coast between Santa Barbara and Los Angeles, Maria and her talented team travel frequently and would be delighted to discuss projects of any size.

More about Maria

A love of nature, art and architecture (and an encounter with a Titian painting in a book) captured mural and decorative artist Maria Trimbell's creative imagination from an early age.  Born and raised in California to a family that revered wild spaces and encouraged her artistic talent, Maria spent her youth drawing, exploring the family's forest, and honing her artistic gifts through private lessons.

An influential summer "grand tour" of Europe in a VW van with her family at seventeen included a visit to the Louvre that brought Maria closer to the paintings that touched her from childhood, and fueled her passion for travel and historic architecture.

After earning a BFA (summa cum laude) from San Francisco State University with an emphasis in conceptual design, Maria was well-versed in creative problem solving and site specific work, but yearned to re-engage her fine art skills. She traveled extensively throughout Europe, absorbing the art and ambience from Venetian Villas to the Alhambra in Spain.  After relocating to Southern California and working as art director for a restoration-quality faux finishing company for several years, she felt ready to specialize and started her own business, fortuitously earning a dream commission in Venice, Italy – to paint a whole room scenic mural in a building where Titian himself once lived and worked.  From that moment, Maria's career found a fertile path.

With regular commissions from renowned designers (such as Michael S. Smith) and creative clients in the U.S. and abroad, Maria continues to be informed and inspired by her travels – with a constant desire to broaden her scope and always welcome serendipity.
