Maria Trimbell Murals is a Southern California decorative art studio working collaboratively with designers and homeowners around the world to create exquisite living spaces.

California artist Maria Trimbell's evocative decorative work draws inspiration from a variety of sources including nature, art, and historic ornament, rendered in a poetic, atmospheric style.

Hand painted scenic murals, bespoke stencils, and custom chinoiserie are created on site or in studio.  Specialty finishes using traditional materials such as milk paint, plaster, and metal leaf are made-to-order so that every commission is truly unique.

Based between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, she and her talented team of artists travel the world and would be delighted to discuss projects of any size.

More about Maria

A love of nature, art and architecture (and an encounter with a Titian painting in a book) captured mural and decorative artist Maria Trimbell's creative imagination from an early age.  Born and raised in California to a family that revered nature and encouraged her artistic talent, Maria spent her youth drawing, exploring the family's forest, and studying art through private lessons.

An influential summer "grand tour" of Europe in a VW van with her family at seventeen included a visit to the Louvre that brought Maria closer to the paintings that touched her from childhood, and fueled her artistic passion.

After earning a BFA (summa cum laude) from San Francisco State University with an emphasis in conceptual design, Maria was well-versed in creative problem solving and site specific work, but yearned to engage her fine art skills. She traveled extensively throughout Europe, absorbing the art and ambience from Venetian Villas to the Alhambra.  After relocating to Southern California and working as art director for a high end decorative painting company for several years, she felt ready to specialize and started her own business, fortuitously earning a dream commission in Venice, Italy – to paint a whole room scenic mural in a building where Titian himself once lived and worked.  From that moment, Maria's career found a fertile path.

With regular commissions from renowned designers (such as Michael S. Smith) and creative clients in the U.S. and abroad, Maria continues to be informed and inspired by her travels – with a constant desire to broaden her scope and always welcome serendipity.
